Parental Therapy/ Parent Coaching
How can we, with out adult minds, know what will be interesting? If you follow the child…you can find out something new
An extra set of eyes to support the journey of parenting
The days of parents being expected to have all the answers are no more! Do you ever feel like as the parent you should be able to handle everything or know exactly what to do with your child since the child belongs to you? Or that you never have the space to have the same emotional response that you give your child. You have an immense pressure to navigate the multiple roads that makeup your life while also being the mind reader, teacher, friend, therapist, chef, and so much more for your kids. I’m not here to repeat what I am sure many have said before- you shouldn’t be everything or that it’s not possible for one human to be everything all the time. I’m here to say and remind you that as a parent, you have extreme resilience and an impressive ability to be and do so much more than you may give yourself credit for.
Parental Therapy: Sometimes, you can get lost amongst everything and it can be hard to see everything you hold in your mind and body. It’s okay to reach out for a lifeline in those moments and allow you to get the support you get for your child. In our work together, we will explore what parenting has been and is to you, how you experience being a parent, and how you feel you are showing up as a parent for you child(ren) and family. Through Reflective Practice, mindfulness, skill building, and compassion, I will be here with you as you learn more about yourself and your impact as a parent.
Parent Coaching: I will provide real time questioning and feedback for any dyadic session you have with your child so that you can see some of the things that may have once been hidden and navigate triggering situations with more confidence and trust. We can also consult on your home environment and the space you and your child spend time in to help bring more embedded support for you and your child. This may evolve throughout our time together based on the changing needs of your and/or your child
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Sessions happen between you and I on a frequency dependent on your needs. We discuss the needs of your home to help optimize the environment for you and your family, while also exploring how you can better approach and understand your child. Often times, to best understand what gets in the way of interacting with your child the way you hope for, we get to explore your life leading up to parenthood and throughout it. Being a parent is not done in a vacuum. You are the product of all the experiences in your life and often bringing a child into the world will highlight some of those experiences. Through this exploration we get to develop tools and skills to use when with your child during challenging moments.
-
Depending on your needs, and your child, dyadic sessions take place where we get to explore what is happening in real time and give you support on navigating challenging situations. Dyadic sessions always include a 10-15 minute discussion at the end without your child to discuss the session. Individual sessions will also take place at a frequency appropriate for your needs.
-
While I often have weekly sessions, you as the parent always have agency to advocate for your needs, and this is something I take into consideration when developing a schedule to provide you with support. We collaborate on finding a frequency that feels right, is feasible, and supportive.

Parent sessions can be done virtually, in office or in home (if appropriate) as they do not include the child. Parent coaching sessions can take place in office or in home (if appropriate).
