Adolescent Therapy

Adolescents need freedom to choose, but not so much freedom that they cannot, in fact, make a choice

Ever feel like you are just watching your child grow but feel like you have no control over how they are changing?

Adolescence is one of the most confusing, difficult, and trying periods in a persons life. With changes happening emotionally, physically, biologically, socially, and developmentally, it can feel impossible to function at the high level society demands of teens today. Through meeting your teen where they are at I will help to redefine what expectations look like, navigate transitions and the pressures of balancing academia and social life, and create the space where they get to develop their ability to understand themselves, learn skills to better support themselves, and show up they way they need without judgement. I will simultaneously work with you to further sharpen your understanding of your teen’s specific teenage language.

  • As the parent, it is important for you to get to be a part of the process with your teen. As they are in a stage where they are trying to master independence, an independent identity, and a better understanding of how they see themselves, we want to respect your child’s autonomy while also being involved. So you and I get to discuss any major themes and important information that comes up in parent sessions that can happen at a frequency based on you and your teens’ needs.

  • While the therapeutic space is one that maintains confidentiality, anytime I hear or suspect of your teen being in danger, I will be reaching out and discussing the concerns with you. Additionally, I often like to consult any other practitioner that is involved with your child as a way to help create the best possible support team for you both.

In the event that I do not specialize in the challenges arising for your child or I am not the right fit, I can provide referrals upon consulting with you. Neither you nor your child needs to be figuring out how to get support on your own.

  • Sessions will take place in office as a means to help your child develop a new space that allows them to feel safe. Virtual sessions are an additional option as well if ti is appropriate for your teen. We get to discuss what the best option is during a consultation call.

  • While play therapy can be freeing and therapeutic for many teens, sessions will include a variety of therapeutic approaches that include creative outlets, talk therapy, mindfulness, skill building, and body-awareness amongst other things. The goal is for the space to feel like it provides your teen with options to navigate their thoughts, emotions, and life. I will meet your teen where they are at.

  • While I am not paneled with any insurance companies due to the restrictions in mental health coverage, I can provide you with Superbills to be submitted to your insurance.
